Literature Text

On deepest night at autumns bend
the lightpost burns its torches end
and many creature follow foot
to lurk and stalk the concrete bend

They crave the flesh of sugared treat
as they wander the moonlit street
banged up doors and open sacks
to which they gather for later eat

For just one night they show their face
of witches scowl and stitched up lace
they run a muck upon the earth
for just another gathered taste

Yet deep inside it isn't feast
that surfaces the wakened beast
no, tis the song and tis the dance
but spirit to heart like bread to yeast

A time to show ones buried wealth
to take life's mask up off the shelf
because the mask you hide behind
is not your suit but is yourself
A simple poem about the one night that a lot of us love most.

wow, this is a late response lol. Like 5 years late :P but I chose "Banged up" as a way of saying that many children knocked upon the doors and the adjective of "banged up" is supposed to represent the wear caused by such activity. :)
